great price and decent pot but it takes some time to brew

I definitely recommend this product its a good price and proper size. i use it twice a week for the past 6 months and so far so good. It serves 50 cups which is just right for the size group it serves. Any other pots above 30 cups the price on them really go up. 40 and 60 cup pots cost more than a $100. So getting this for under $50 with shipping a real bargain. Only con which is more opinion is that the brew time is significant it takes about an hour and 15 minutes to brew a full pot.As far as construction its fair I give it 3 stars on that. That said I do recommend this.

Worked great...then died! :(
how quickly they grow up...

For 5 months, this was one of the best coffee makers I ever owned. It has a large opening to the reservoir so no annoying spilling as you're trying to fill it, it's programmable with a nicely visible clock that kept perfect time, and it brewed very quickly. Then the honeymoon ended. :(After 5 1/2 months of light use (one pot, every other day or so), it just suddenly stopped heating today. The clock still works fine, so it's getting power, just won't heat at all. I will try contacting Black & Decker (with crossed fingers) for a replacement and hope this was a fluke, but after being so pleased with this coffee maker, it just makes it's premature demise so much more disappointing!Will update review if B&D replaces.

Right from the beginning we had a problem. The first night we set the clock to the correct time and then programmed the machine to start brewing at 5:30am the next morning. When I checked the machine at 5:30 am the brewing had not started because the clock now read 1:30am......ok, so maybe it got bumped. One design problem is it's REALLY easy to bump the clock buttons.....BUT it would have had to have been bumped 20 times! So I reset the clock and pushed the on button to start brewing right away.....no big deal. That afternoon at about 3:30pm I decided to go program the machine to brew a pot about 4pm or so, but once again I find the clock is EXACTLY 4 hours behind.....AGAIN.Long story short, don't trust the clock which also means it is useless to program the machine and expect a steaming pot of coffee when you wake up.

No adequate replacement carafe

I was satisfied with the coffee maker. Especially like the permanent filter, hadn't had one of those before. But I gave this model only two stars because the replacement carafe just won't do. The only replacement option from Black & Decker does not really fit this coffee maker model DE755B. You have to shove i in to fit and then it is really stuck so you have to practically topple the coffee maker to retrieve the carafe. Just any carafe won't do, it has to press up against the area where the coffee comes out or the coffee won't come out!

I've needed a stock pot for a long time and this is just the right size andthe anodized is super easy to clean up. No need for scrubbing and no temptation to put it in the dishwasher. The size is great; it fits in the cupboard and still holds plenty of whatever. This item will last for years and years with proper care.The handles stay cool when the pot is hot. THe only complaint I have is that the cover's screw is a bit loose. But I love this item.

Great machine but dated technology

I've had the 871 model for several years now and have made a perfect espresso-cappuccino every time.I lost the bottom plate that the carafe sits on and broke the carafe some time back. I almost Bought a DeLonghi EC155 Espresso Machine on an auction site but glad I didn't as even though it had positive reviews, it (the DeLonghi)has some drawbacks. The gap between spout and shot glass is barely adequate, Shape and length of wand is wrong for getting frother deep into milk, Wand is too low to fit easily, even in small frothing pitcher. Though the DeLonghi has great reviews, I decided to stick with the tried and true 871.Now if you desire to steam your milk in the 871, there are a couple of steps one has to go through.You have to remove the cup that holds the grounds and place a metal plate over the receptacle that held the grounds to divert the steam to the foaming spout; and refill the boiler with water. Positive note; you can make all the steamed milk your heart desires.Thought the 871 is a dated design and this is the only one I've ever owned so I see no reason to risk purchasing another make and or model that I may not be happy with.Update: I just purchased A Nespresso C100-US-AERO Essenza Automatic Single-Serve Espresso Machine with Nespresso Aeroccino Milk Frother; which I'm afraid the Krups seems so 1980's in technology; then again, The Krups is still a good little machine compared to others in it's same price range.
