OK, here's the bottom line for you folks trying to make a coffee maker, plastic cup pod, paper pod decision. Everything that it took me weeks to find out through research, and using this brewer. In my 60 years, I've drank a lot of coffee. Never much cared what kind, what brand, etc. I decided last year to see if I could find a really good coffee. After many days of research, it seemed that the little paper pods made better coffee than those plastic cup pod thingies because the paper pods hold more coffee and make a real cup of coffee. Most folks were complaining that it took 2 of those little plastic cup pods to make a whole cup of coffee, or get used to 4 ounce cups of coffee. With the first decision made, it was time to search out a decent coffee maker. Not a world wide selection of coffee makers out there when it comes to the paper pods presently, but I think that in the future, people will gravitate to this type of machine due to the quality of the coffee. I think I read every review and sad story about every coffee maker in existence. All seemed to do this wrong, that wrong, or have a problem. Not the SunCafe. I am writing this review on April 2012. I think I bought this coffee maker back around September 2011. First off I think the description says it makes 5 to 12 ounces of coffee. Not exactly. It will make 5, 8, 9, 10, or 12 ounce cups; your choice. That choice is basically made by trial and error. Different coffee roasters place varying amounts of coffee in their pods. Most will make an 8 or 9 ounce cup of coffee. The ones that I use are the 61 mm pods even though I think the brewer is supposed to use 62 mm pods, and each pods has 10 grams of coffee in them. The Coffee Artisan has some awesome Papau New Guinea and Sumatra coffees in their pod choices. Some pod manufacturers will make "extra bold" pods, which contain 12 grams of coffee. Don't waste your time. I'll explain in a moment. To the coffee maker. We now live in a world where everything is made as cheaply as possible in China, India, Korea, etc. etc. So far, I'm really glad that I decided on this Canadian made brewer. It has really made me love coffee, if it is possible to love coffee. Easy operation. Pull out the pod tray, insert pod, push in tray, pull down pod lock handle, place cup on coffee maker, press start button, wait a minute for the water to heat, press the brew button, you have coffee. This maker has a pump on it that forces the water through the pod. The pump is a little noisy. Not something that you'd hear in the next room noisy, but noisy. But that little pump also puts foam on top of the cup of coffee. Not as much as the big coffee house machines, but foam. Nice touch. The only problem with these machines, and this applies to any type of plastic or paper pod machine, is filling the water tank. None of them are large, so it can be a small pain. As for the "extra bold" pods mentioned earlier and why they are a waste. Again, this machine has a pump that forces water through the pods. When inserted into the machine, the pods are compressed by the pod lock down handle. If using the extra bold pods with more coffee in them; first off, you have trouble getting the handle to lock down due to the extra coffee in the pod. I worried about breaking the lock down handle actually. After getting the pod in, it is so compressed that the pump has trouble forcing water through the pod. Instead of a 9 oz. cup, you may get 7, making this an extra/extra bold cup of coffee. You want stronger coffee, use regular pods and turn down the ounces of water going into your cup rather than risking breaking the pod lock down handle or over pressurizing the pump. Compared to everything else I read about, and my experience so far with this machine, I think you'll be ok if you decide to purchase this one. And the red color is a really good looking darker red. Classy. Hope this helps.UPDATE: Three bad items thus far. 1. I purchased this brewer around the first of December 2011. In April of 2012, instead of coffee just pouring out of the hole that it is supposed to come out of and drop into the cup, it is coming out of both sides of the pod holder also. If your cup is not a wide cup, wide enough to catch these two streams, your coffee will miss the cup. 2. May 2012. Amount of coffee dispensed varies quite a bit. I roast and grind my own beans, and weigh the coffee that I put into each pod so that I can have very good coffee that is always the same. Hard for your coffee to always have the same taste when the amount of water being dispensed varies.3. July 2012. If you look at the picture of the coffee maker, coffee is now not only dripping from the sides of the pod holder, it is also running, not dripping, running down the coffee maker behind where the cup of coffee is sitting. It does not go into the provided drip catcher under the cup but runs off of the sides of the coffee maker and onto the countertop. I really hate that this turned out to be a bum machine. Had high hopes that our Canadian friends could make something better than that sorry junk from Asia. Totally disappointed.

I think this brewer may be the one to buy. Ours worked for 4 days then the pod handle mechanism jammed and it will not go up or down so the unit will be returned today. It made a good cup of coffee and I hope I just got a bad unit.

I used this machine while visiting friends in La Jolla, CA for 5 weeks. After i returned home, I missed it so much, I had to get one of my own.Once in awhile the little hole in the center of the pod holder will become plugged and I have to insert a needle in it to clean it out. You know when it needs to be poked because the machine will only make about a teaspoon of coffee. Otherwise, it's wonderful. Buy one and enjoy a cup of fast, rich coffee!
