I don't agree with the previous customer. It is certainly not true for my coffee maker of the same model! I have had it for over a year now, using it on average about 2-3 times/ week and it's holding up just fine. Exactly what I expected for that kind of money - no extras, not very sturdy looking, but brewing coffee when I need it to!I must admit, I broke the carafe about two weeks after I had purchased the coffee maker by accidentally throwing it on the hardwoord floor, and a replacement pot would have been more than the whole new thing. So I ended up buying the same coffee maker twice within a month (luckily it was on sale both times!), but other than that I have no complaints.

Our Black and Decker coffee maker's carafe broke, so we brought our 5 year old Proctor Silex 43531 down from storage. It's still going strong after a lot of years of working and then storage. The coffee is just as good as from a $100.00+ drip maker. Unlike one reviewer's report, nothing has broken on ours. Maybe the new ones are flimsier than my oldie, but all is strong and well made on mine. I wish we would have gotten black for appearances, but that's 4 stars for me, not this great value in a basic drip coffee maker. We might get another coffee maker in black for appearances sake only, but if so, this will go back into storage. I wouldn't have the heart to throw it away.

I wanted a simple 12-cup coffee maker with no bells and whistles. This appeared to fit the bill. When it arrived, the plastic filter cup turned out to be very flimsy, but the cost was so low and standards have deteriorated so much that I thought it would still be OK. After about 20 uses, however, the spring mechanism in the filter cup that opens the hole where the water filters through into the carafe bent out of shape, even though it had always been treated very gently. So the water can no longer escape the filter and overflows back into the machine and all over the kitchen counter. Spend a bit more money on a more sturdily-built coffee maker. Do not purchase this one or any similarly-priced one. Otherwise, you'll be purchasing a new machine monthly.
