Restaurant style coffee on tap...
Richard G. Goodwin

I should have gotten this coffee maker years ago. After all the "High End" coffee makers that promise the "best" coffee and end up failing after a year or so just after the warranty expires, I finally just got the Bunn and am so glad I did. It just makes the best coffee we've ever had at home. It's not so tall that it won't fit under the kitchen cabinet. As we've only had it for a month I cannot rate on longevity, but the machine is very basic with no timers and such to malfunction and it is made to be repaired not replaced. Parts are easily obtainable, but I don't think that will be an issue for years. My significant other was leery of no timer to have coffee ready in the morning, but has come to realize that 3 1/2 minutes isn't that long to wait. Pour water in, coffee comes out. I saw a review where an appliance timer was utilized to conserve energy as the machine is "on" all the time. The heater isn't on except to keep the water at brewing temperature so, consequently, cycles roughly every hour and a half for a minute to a minute and a half so taking fifteen to twenty minutes to reheat the water after being off for several hours doesn't, in my mind, gain anything. In another review someone purchased the stainless steel funnel and was upset he had to bend it to fit. Well, he bought the wrong funnel. There is more than one size. The proper funnel for the VP17 series is PN: 20216.0000 7 1/8" Dia. I don't think the overall cost of the machine is that much for what you get out of it. Check out the prices relative to other machines (that don't last) and you'll see what I mean. Yes, you have to buy a carafe seperately. All the web sites I've seen state that. You can shop around and get a good price on those too. We have the stainless steel bottom one and yes, the top is plastic. My other likes it because it's lighter than the glass ones and after all the ones we've had that insist on dripping on the counter top, that will never be an issue with these. Overall, we couldn't be happier with the purchase.

Disappointed in Bunn

I was tired of purchasing cheap, Chinese made plastic coffee makers so I took the plunge and purchased a Bunn A10 machine. Unfortunately, I had to return it because the coffee wasn't coming out hot enough. The A10 was exchanged for the VP 17 model.Along with the VP17, I also purchased the stainless steel brew basket to avoid all plastic for health reasons. I am once again disappointed to find the VP 17 brewing weak coffee that is also not that hot. Considering the price of these machines, coffee should not be room temperature after adding just a bit of milk. After researching the web, I read some posts that mentioned a flow restrictor spray head as a resolution to the weak coffee. I contacted Bunn and explained my two issues. The Technical Support person I spoke to did not offer to send me a flow restrictor spray head telling me that if the temperature wasn't hot enough the coffee would be brewed weak. He had me open the machine to make sure the thermostat was turned all the way up, which it was. He told me he felt the thermostat was defective and advised me to take the machine in for service and gave me the phone number and address of the service center. The problem is, this machine is less than a month old and it's a beast - a huge, heavy machine to lug to a service center that is a car ride away and I've been dealing with back issues. Unfortunately, I do not have the box or I would return it to Amazon.I did some further research on the web and found that many others are having these same issues. If what I read is correct, apparently Bunn now ships it's newer models with a thermostat that only reaches 180 degrees instead of the promised 200 degrees. In order to get a higher temperature, one has to purchase a new thermostat (Bunn part number 03024.0005) and install it. I am not that adventurous to do that sort of work so that option is out for me. I have read so many glowing reviews about Bunn's Customer Service and how they offered to ship out new machines to replace defective ones but that wasn't the case for me. Perhaps the commercial units are treated differently from the home models. All in all, the cost of this machine was just not worth it. I am glad to pay top dollar for a machine made in the USA that makes a hot cup of coffee without much plastic. Unfortunately, this machines fails to brew a hot, strong cup of coffee.

Replaced a dual warmer. Works great.

Just what we needed. Replaced an older Bunn which lasted 8 years. Hopefully this will last at least that long
