This coffee maker is poorly designed and the carafe drips, no pours down the front of the carafe when attempting to pour a cup of coffee. The base is top heavy and when filled with water is prone to tipping over. Be prepared to sop up coffee off your table top whenever you pour a cup.

Yes, it's red and beautiful, and DOES make coffee--but I should've believed the review I read. Indeed, when pouring, it dribbles--pour fast, pour slow--it spills!! Can't seem to get rid of a "plastic" taste it gives to the coffee..not terrific. Do not think this steel pot is "thermo" and will keep the coffee hot for hours. No way. When done brewing, I pour (dribble+spill) into a REAL thermos. (if the coffee is removed from the maker rapidly--it desn't have such a strong plastic taste) Unless you NEED "red", for decor, this is not worth 1/2 the amount I paid...BUT, it's "real purdy".

I was looking for a simple cone-filter coffee maker and took a chance with the Kalorik stainless steel carafe coffee maker. I actually bought two, to get a "his and hers" carafe (one black, one red), for two people making two different types of coffee in the morning. After one month of usage, here are my comments:1. On the topic of spilling when pouring, the black carafe poured a little better than the red carafe, but best to remove the lid from either when pouring. However, I modified the carafes by removing approx 1 millimeter of plastic on the carafe inside lip at the pour spout (using a utility knife). Both pour nicely now without dripping or making a mess.2. The coffee maker has a bottom warmer for the carafe. The coffee maker is probably the same as the glass carafe version with the bottom warmer. We effectively disable the bottom warmer by turning off the coffee maker when removing the carafe after brewing.3. The thermos carafe keeps coffee hot long enough to drink it. The carafe bottom is cool enough to keep on the table when the coffee inside is hot.4. The on-off switch is a little different - up is off, down is on, but we got used to it.5. We have not had any problems with the plastic. The coffee maker water reservoir is actually a clear plastic unit fitted inside the coffee maker.Summary, I expect that we will keep using this coffee maker for years to come, after a modification the carafes pour well, and we like the carafe that keeps the coffee hot enough while we drink it.
