I thought running water through the carafe lid would be adequate to clean it after making coffee. Today, after about 6 months of doing this, I accidentally left the lid soaking in a bowl of water in the sink, and ALL KINDS OF DISGUSTING slimy brown coffee residue started coming out! It is impossible to take the lid apart or get a pipe cleaner inside it to clean, so I just had to soak and swirl it for several hours until no more pieces of gunk came out. Now I am really not sure I ever want to drink anything out of this carafe again. YUCK. It is also difficult to pour water from the carafe into the coffeemaker-- lots of drips and spills, even when you're being careful.

I owned this same coffee maker, but it was sold under the Proctor Silex brand. When I made mistakes several times over the last 18 months or so in setting up the pot, like forgetting to put the Coffee filter holder in :-) and setting the pot lopsided, resulting in water overflow, the warmer plate didn't automatically turn off any longer. I replaced it with this Hamilton Beach brand which is the same coffee maker and I'm VERY satisfied. The pot will require a brush to clean as the opening is quite small, but the coffee remains hot for hours after the maker automatically shuts off. You must be careful in pouring the coffee, but that has been the case with every coffee maker I've owned.

I am addicted to Amazon shopping. The stuff falls out of the sky. I don't have to go to stores, waste gas, and be frustrated when the product is not available, or the service stinks. With that said, I get boxes daily! This is the FIRST review I have ever taken the time to write. I hesitated to purchase this because of the bad reviews. I checked other sites, found conflicting ratings, liked the appearance of the pot and decided to take a risk. WOW! This is the best coffee maker I have ever purchased or used, ever! Here is the trick to any appliance...READ THE DIRECTIONS BEFORE USE! The lid and spout that others complained about...if you follow the directions, it works like magic. Easy to pour, not one drop spills, not one drop. Coffee is perfect temperature. I LOVE this coffee maker and recommend to everyone. I even like it better than my Cuisinart that just died. If issues arise in the future with this pot, I will make note here, but so far A ++++++++++!!!!
