Absolute junk
Pierre Briere

I only gave this one star because no stars is not an option. Actually, this coffee maker is so bad, I would give it a negative rating if it were possible. My Mr. Coffee brand coffee maker died after many years of service, and when I went to buy a coffee maker, I saw Mr. Coffee units for $18 and this unit for $10. I went for the cheap Rival coffee maker to save money. Big mistake. If you buy this RIval coffee maker, you will get ten dollars worth of coffee maker. Today, because my Rival unit is broken, I will be spending the extra money to get another Mr. Coffee coffee maker. Here is what's wrong with this cheaply made piece of junk:1. The coffee is not hot enough. Even if I leave the coffee on the burner plate for five minutes after brewing (as another reviewer suggested) it is still FAR below the proper serving temperature. What, are they worried I might spill it in my lap and sue them?? LOL2. The engineers that designed this carafe have managed to work the most annoying feature into it. All carafes have the "spout" built in for pouring. On this Rival model, the design is such that after I pour the coffee into my cup, I always (and I do mean EVERY TIME) have to wipe off the coffee that dribbles down the side of the carafe. This happens consistently, and not just sometimes. I have never had this happen with any other carafe, and it is strange and most annoying.3. The carafe is made from the thinnest possible glass they could have used. In fact, the reason I am buying a new coffee maker today is because my Rival carafe broke. I'm amazed at how easily it broke. I was lifting the carafe out of my dish drainer on the counter, and bumped it ever so slightly on the cabinet above (and I do mean it was just a little bump), and the bottom of the carafe broke instantly. My old Mr. Coffee coffee maker is still sitting on the counter, and out of curiosity I compared the thickness of the glass of each unit. The Mr. Coffee carafe is made with glass that is twice as thick as the glass used in this Rival unit. No wonder the Rival carafe broke so easily.4. I never noticed before that Rival is associated with Wal-Mart. The instruction manual contains the following: "Rival and Rival logo are registered products of Sunbeam Products, Inc. used under license by Wal-Mart stores, Inc. Bentonville, AR 72716." Had this been printed somewhere on the outside of the box, I never would have purchased this unit. I make it a point not to buy stuff that is licensed by other companies to Wal-Mart because, in my opinion, when Wal-Mart is involved in the manufacture of a product, the customer ends up with cheaply made, shoddy product.Do yourself a favor if you're looking for a new coffee maker. Spend the extra money and get a better brand. Zero quality goees into Rival coffee makers. I would only buy this coffee maker for someone I hate.

Sometimes Being Cheap Backfires

Wanting nothing more than a decent cup of coffee and an on/off switch, I eagerly purchased this $9 model at the local WalMart. That was a big mistake--don't let it be yours. It never produces hot coffee--tepid is more accurate. Other inexpensive coffee makers have easy-to-remove filter baskets (swinging arms or removable tops). Whoever designed this one should be fired--it's VERY hard to remove and snaps into place--nothing easy about it. Those are two very good reasons this appliance's next stop is a thrift store donation.I haven't given up on cheap coffee makers. The Hamilton Beach 12-cup coffee maker has gotten good Amazon reviews and is under $20. That will be my next purchase--too bad $9 was wasted here.

DO NOT BUY
TruthnBeauty

I bought this because it was cheap ($8 at Walmart) but I do NOT recommend it. It made good coffee, actually, but it only lasted me about 10 days. It still turns on, but nothing happens. So, I barely got one week's worth of coffee from it...still cheaper than buying coffee each of those days, but don't buy this if you plan to make coffee frequently!
